Featuring new original paintings by our 2016 Bombay Sapphire Regional Contest Winner, Resa Wohlrabe
Resa Wohlrabe was born in San Antonio, Texas. She received her Master’s of Fine Arts in 2007 from Florida State University and her undergraduate degree in ceramics from Texas Tech University in 2004. A versitle artist, paint is not her only medium. She has created an ‘upcycled’ bicycle part jewelry line, has recently illustrated a book, she has experienced local success with her first magazine feature in SA Women’s Magazine. Wohlrabe was also the winner of the Bombay Sapphire Artisan Series regional competition at ART on 5th last fall, and was delighted to be a part of the national competition in Miami, FL at Art Basel Miami.
Wohlrabe explores the deeply connected human spirit to survival and emotions in the modern world, “We, humans, are at this point in our evolution where we are aware that we are intellectually progressive but sometimes these visceral actions overcome us, especially when threatened or challenged.” She uses her personal experiences to create meanings in order to form a cohesive idea between her and others. The artwork encompasses varying degrees of visual abstraction while exploring human interaction that general society finds challenging at times such as competition, anxiety, skepticism, and frivolity.
